The Slovenian Basketball Federation (KZS) introduced its newest member during Thursday's press conference. Sasa Doncic, the father of Dallas Mavericks superstar Luka Doncic, has taken on the role of sports director at KZS.

Sasa Doncic's appointment aims to fill the void left by Rasho Nesterovic's unexpected departure from the General Secretary position last summer. Nesterovic, a former NBA player, was responsible for overseeing the Slovenian national team and often served as a mentor.

KZS President Matej Erjavec explained that Sasa Doncic's responsibilities extend beyond managing the men's national team. In his new role, he will act as a link between the management and the national team.

Additionally, he will be involved in guiding and monitoring players in the Slovenian league, those playing in the USA at universities, and across Europe.

Sasa Doncic, aged 49, has been closely following the national team's events in recent years. Previously, he served as an expert commentator for television and attended the last FIBA World Cup in Okinawa and Manila as a fan.

Before his involvement with the national team, Doncic worked as a coach in Slovenia.

Expressing his enthusiasm for the new role, Sasa Doncic emphasized that his priority is facilitating communication between basketball players and the staff. He will also focus on nurturing young talents within the sport.

"When I got this offer, I first asked a few people if they agreed with it, including Luka. It is only in my interest to strengthen the bond between all the members. I did not take this role for the financial side but for the feeling that basketball gives you," affirmed Sasa Doncic.
