Initially, head coach Tom Thibodeau referred to it as a sprained ankle during his press conference. However, the Knicks later clarified that it was labeled as a sore ankle.
The extent of Hartenstein's injury remains uncertain.
In a post-game statement, Thibodeau mentioned, "I haven't talked to medical yet. So we'll see where it is tomorrow."
This injury comes as a blow to the Knicks, who are already without their starting center, Mitchell Robinson, due to a feared season-ending ankle injury. Despite denying a disabled player exception after Robinson's surgery, the Knicks are hopeful for his return before the playoffs.
In the meantime, Hartenstein had stepped up as a starting-caliber center, averaging 6.6 points, 8.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 1.1 blocks per game.
