Team USA officially included 41 players on the extended list, with some of the biggest names in basketball being selected.
NBA superstars Kawhi Leonard, Damian Lillard, Jimmy Butler, Kevin Durant, LeBron James, Stephen Curry, Jayson Tatum, and Joel Embiid lead the list. Multiple players from the 2023 FIBA World Cup team are included, including Anthony Edwards, Paolo Banchero, Austin Reaves, and Brandon Ingram.
After a series of defeats in the early 2000s, the Team USA selection process was rethought and retooled before the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, which led to an 11-year unbeaten run in major international competitions.
Since then, Team USA lost twice in the 2019 FIBA World Cup, finishing the tournament in 7th place, lost once in the 2021 Tokyo Olympics en route to a gold medal, and lost three times in the 2023 FIBA World Cup, placing 4th.
