In addition to Rivers, Golden State Warriors assistant coach Kenny Atkinson, a runner-up to Griffin last summer, is considered a candidate if negotiations with Rivers fail, Chams adds.
After being let go by the Philadelphia 76ers last year, Rivers was working as an analyst on ESPN and an unofficial consultant for Griffin in the Bucks organization.
After getting hired in June 2023, Griffin lasted just half a year in the franchise, coaching 43 games in the NBA. The Bucks are expected to make assistant Joe Prunty the interim head coach.
