In response, the Turkish player expressed that the comparison doesn't bother him at the moment. However, Sengun hinted that as he matures in the league, he would prefer to establish his individual identity.
"I mean, no," Sengun responded when asked whether the tag annoys him. "Not for now. I am still young, but after some point, yeah. They mean like my game is similar to him [Nikola Jokic]. Is it true, though? We kind of play the same game.
"When they were telling me the first time I came here, you know, it sounds better and better, but getting your space now in the NBA... Own your spot. Of course, when he gotta retire or something, when he gets old, and I am gonna be at some age, I do not wanna people tell me like 'Baby Jokic.' Right now, it's fine. I'm like a baby. But when I grow up, I don't wanna hear that."
Sengun, 21, averages 22.1 points, 9.2 rebounds, and 5.1 assists over 43 games in his third NBA season.
