The 73-point performance is both a franchise record for the Mavericks and the fourth-best scoring performance in NBA history, only behind three performances from Kobe Bryant and Wilt Chamberlain.
Doncic tied David Thompson and Wilt Chamberlain for the fourth place. The guard was flattered to be among such high company.
"Those names are special. It's unbelievable," Doncic stated with awe, among quotes compiled by ESPN and The Associated Press.
The Slovenian guard also surpassed his personal best, which was 60 points. Oddly enough, that performance by Doncic has also been the franchise record until now.
Thanks to this monstrous performance, the Mavericks were able to snap their three-game losing streak and improve their record to 25-20.
Atlanta Hawks superstar Trae Young, who also had a strong performance, had praise for his Slovenian colleague.
"He was hot. He was going. We were trying everything. We were trying to trap him," stated Young.
Doncic's teammate, Josh Green, and the team's coach, Jason Kidd also had praise for the guard.
"I've never seen anything like that," Green said simply.
As for Jason Kidd, he believes that the Mavericks' game is very contingent on how Doncic performs: "He is the game plan," he said with a laugh, after being asked if Doncic being hot changed up the game strategy or not.
"Some say they are a system, he is the game plan," Kidd noted about Doncic. "His ability to make shots, create shots, find open guys, he did that at a high level tonight."
"I've said this before, we can't take him for granted," the coach said. "Every night is special. He always does something. Sometimes we are a little bit tough on him because of the wins and losses, but what he does on the court is different than anybody else," Kidd concluded.
As for the man of the hour, Doncic continues to have a great season, averaging 33.6 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 9.3 assists per game. He is ranked 2nd, 21st, and 3rd respectively in those statistics.
