Jan. 26, 2024, was a historic day in the NBA. Luka Doncic scored a franchise-record 73 points, tied for the fourth-most in NBA history, to lead the Dallas Mavericks to a 148-143 win over the Atlanta Hawks on Friday night.

Doncic improved his personal best and team-record 60 points after scoring a team-record 41 points in the first half. Luka finished with an exceptional stat line of 25 made field goals out of 33 attempts, 8 successful 3-pointers out of 13, and an almost flawless 15 of 16 from the free-throw line.

For context, Wilt Chamberlain set the single-game scoring record on March 2, 1962, when he dropped 100 points for the Philadelphia Warriors. What's more impressive, Chamberlain achieved this before the introduction of the 3-point line in 1979.

Kobe Bryant occupies the second spot in the record books, having scored 81 points against the Toronto Raptors in 2006.

Other than Chamberlain, Bryant, and now Doncic, the only players in NBA history who have scored 70 points in an NBA game include David Thompson (73), Elgin Baylor (71), David Robinson (71), Donovan Mitchell (71), Damian Lillard (71), Devin Booker (70) and Joel Embiid (70).

Chamberlain remains unparalleled with six 70-point games, making him the sole player in NBA history to achieve such a feat multiple times.
