The club has registered 16 players in the tournament so far. With the total limit being 20 players, Barcelona wouldn't be tied to any strict deadline.
However, the issue arises in the EuroLeague. Namely, all EuroLeague teams have until February 7th to register new players to their squads, leaving Barca with just a week until the deadline passes.
"Seeing Ricky on the court is very good news, but only and exclusively for his recovery process. I'm happy as a person, and we also have to be very happy that he has chosen our club as part of his recovery process," Barca's head coach, Roger Grimau, said after Tuesday's practice.
"Sometimes I wish I could have had a better NBA career," Rubio said in an interview with Jon Krawczynski from The Athletic. "Sometimes I wish I would’ve had a championship. Sometimes, I think about my career, but at the end of the day, I had a lot of fun. I enjoyed it."
