The Memphis Grizzlies announced they would retire Gasol's no. 33 jersey on April 6th following the game against the Philadelphia 76ers.

Gasol will become the second player in franchise history to receive such an honor after Zach Randolph's no. 50 jersey was retired in 2021.

The Spanish big man played 11 seasons in Memphis (2008-19), being one of the key players in the franchise's first playoff series victory in 2011 and the trip to the Western Conference Finals in 2013.

Gasol leads the Grizzlies in all-time minutes played, games started, field goals made, free throws made, defensive and total rebounds, and blocks. While playing for the Grizzlies, he was named the NBA Defensive Player of the Year in 2013. In 2015, he became the franchise's only player to have been selected into the All-NBA First Team.

Gasol was also the first player in Grizzlies history to be voted an All-Star Game starter, having played in the event a franchise-record three times.
