The cause of his death is currently unknown.
Between his numerous NBA seasons, Cureton played multiple years internationally, one of which was for Olimpia Milan in 1989-90, a team that currently plays in the EuroLeague.
Cureton, a Detroit native, remained loyal to his home city throughout his entire life, dedicating his service to the local sport until his death. "He represented our franchise with great passion and truly enjoyed working to give back and improve the lives of Detroiters in the city he loved so much,' the Pistons wrote.
"All of us are hurting with the unexpected loss of Earl Cureton. He was a tremendous teammate, tough competitor, a champion, and a great human being. Earl always held the Detroit community close to his heart and worked tirelessly to make a difference for the city he loved. He will be greatly missed," Hall of Famer and former Cureton's teammate Isiah Thomas said.
