Chima Moneke predicts Detroit Pistons would face challenges in the EuroLeague, suggesting a potential Play-In scenario due to their young roster and the adjustments required for European-style play.

Former NBA forward Chima Moneke has expressed his views on the struggling Detroit Pistons, dubbing them as a team that would not secure a direct ticket to the EuroLeague Playoffs in the 2023-24 regular season or could end up their participation in the league's Play-In.

The Pistons currently hold the dubious title of being the worst team in the NBA, enduring a 6-43 overall record. They also had a historic 28-game losing streak in the first part of the season.

"The Detroit Pistons in the EuroLeague would be Play-In, max," Moneke said in an interview with Dionysis Aravantinos of HoopsHype. "That's what people need to start asking. Think about all the young guys that they have. And dealing with the European coaches, they would not do that well.

"It's not about basketball rules, and what you're used to matters," the Baskonia player continued. "Guys are averaging 20 or something [points] over there, then you come over here, it's a 40-minute game, and you don't play the entire first quarter. How are you dealing with that? You're averaging 14 minutes per game. In the NBA, you can play 26. It's different."

The Pistons currently boast a roster with 12 players under the age of 25.

This season, Detroit found itself teetering on the brink of not just potentially making NBA history but also of equalling the longest losing streak in major American professional sports. The record is currently held by the Chicago Cardinals, losing 29 consecutive games in the NFL between 1942 and 1945.
