With just over a week left until the start of the 2024 NBA All-Star Weekend, participants and the format of the Rising Stars Challenge were officially announced.

Three former basketball players - WNBA legend Tamika Catchings, Hall of Famer Pau Gasol, and former guard Jalen Rose - drafted three teams from a pool of rookies and sophomores. In addition, former NBA forward Detlef Schrempf assembled a team of players from the G League.

The four teams of seven players will compete in a mini-tournament. Three total games will be played - two semifinals and a final.

The three games will be played to a target score. The semifinals' target score is 40 points, while the final is shorter - 25 points.
