The pedestrian was seriously injured but was in stable condition at a Miami-area hospital, according to the statement.
The accident occurred just before midnight after the Heat earned a 121-95 victory over the Orlando Magic on Tuesday. Highsmith, who was not injured in the incident, was cited for careless driving, according to The Athletic report.
According to Dainis, Highsmith remained at the scene after the accident and he “had not consumed alcohol or drugs and was not speeding.”
He stopped to render aid. “We have been made aware that Highsmith was involved in a car accident heading home from last night’s game,” the Heat said in a statement Wednesday.
"Our hearts go out to those who were injured. We will have no further comment at this time.” Highsmith, 27, is averaging 5.8 points and 2.8 rebounds in 37 games (24 starts) this season. This is his third season with the Heat. Miami hosts the Boston Celtics on Sunday.
