The same source also states that Faruk Biberovic, Tarik's brother, will continue to be considered a local player as he competes in underage tournaments with the Turkish national team.
Previously, Ergin Ataman, the head coach of the Turkish national team and Panathinaikos AKTOR Athens, had stated that Tarik Biberovic would be on the preliminary roster (to be announced on Monday, 12th of February) for Turkiye's squad for the EuroBasket Qualifiers.
In the tournaments prior to this one, the Turkish Basketball Federation had used the sole foreign player slot given out to each national team for either Shane Larkin or Scottie Wilbekin, depending on either one's availability.
However, last summer, the Turkish federation froze both Larkin and Wilbekin's Turkish status, disallowing their entry to the national team and forbidding Anadolu Efes Istanbul and Fenerbahce from using those players as foreigners in the Turkish domestic league after both failed to show up in Turkiye's effort for the 2023 FIBA Olympic Pre-Qualifying Tournament in Istanbul.
Tarik Biberovic will fill the slot left by the two Turkish-American stars. He may compete in the EuroBasket 2025 Qualifiers as a foreign player for the Turkish national team if he is chosen to be included by Ergin Ataman in the final 12-man roster.
The young player enjoyed increased minutes in the EuroLeague this year, averaging 5.8 points and 1.7 rebounds per game, which are career highs for him.
He is also shooting with remarkable efficiency, averaging 56.5% two-point shooting and 56.5% three-point shooting in the continent's top basketball competition.
