The game, however, took a backseat to the heated on-court clash between Draymond Green and Jusuf Nurkic, marking their first encounter since Green's controversial slap that led to his indefinite suspension.
Throughout the game, the tension between Green and Nurkic translated into physical play, accompanied by exchanged "too small" gestures.
The intensity spilled beyond the court, as both players engaged in a war of words through the media post-game.
"It's sad, he didn't learn anything," Nurkic said of Green post-game. "Just a matter of time, he's going to knock somebody else again. Take everything back what I said. He don't deserve a chance. That's it from me.
"Just antics, trying to hit people," the center said on what made him think so. "The stuff he shouldn't do. But I don't care."
Green had a well-rounded performance, scoring 15 points, grabbing seven rebounds, and dishing out nine assists. In contrast, Nurkic finished with six points, six rebounds, and four assists.
Responding to Nurkic, Green brushed off the Bosnian player's criticism.
"If he wants me to walk around quiet like him, I'm never gonna do that. Quiet guys don't win," Green said. "I thought I was pretty great tonight.
"[Nurkic] can keep riding the same horse that he rode in on. He can ride his ass on out of here on the same horse. It ain't working."
Curry, the hero of the game, also chimed in, labeling Nurkic's comments as "idiotic" during his post-game press conference.
"Draymond was in his head, plain and simple," Curry said. “You can tell somebody is in your head when you go out of your way to, you know, celebrate. Funny how the refs didn’t see that."
