This Monday marked one of the saddest days in 21st-century Serbian basketball history as the community mourned the untimely passing of Dejan Milojevic at the age of 46. The beloved Golden State Warriors assistant coach suffered a heart attack on January 17, leaving behind a legacy that touched many.

Among those expressing their final farewells was Warriors head coach Steve Kerr, who not only shared a professional bond with Milojevic but considered him a dear friend.

Kerr, along with a Golden State delegation, including Mike Dunleavy Jr. (general manager), Bob Myers (former general manager), Zaza Pachulia (front office consultant), Chris DeMarco (player development coach), and Ron Adams (assistant coach) traveled to Belgrade, Serbia, to bid a last goodbye.

Kerr will not coach the Warriors tonight in Utah, and Kenny Atkinson will be the acting head coach.

The funeral gathered a constellation of basketball legends, both local and regional.

Former NBA players such as Nemanja Bjelica, Darko Milicic, Zeljko Rebraca, Zarko Cabarkapa, Predrag Danilovic, Sasha Pavlovic, and Ratko Varda showed up today to honor Deki's life.

Denver Nuggets forward Vlatko Cancar, who played under Milojevic's coaching at Mega Basket, was also present.

Other well-known European names included Zeljko Obradovic, Novica Velickovic, Branko Lazic, Luka Mitrovic, Slavko Vranes, and Dejan Tomasevic, among others.

Milojevic, before joining the NBA in 2021, started his coaching journey in Mega, where he spent eight seasons and played a crucial role in nurturing talents, including NBA MVP Nikola Jokic.

As a professional player, Milojevic had a remarkable career spanning over a decade in Europe, competing in the EuroLeague for teams like Buducnost Podgorica and Partizan Belgrade. His contributions extended to the EuroCup competition, representing Valencia Basket alongside Buducnost.

After his tenure with Mega Basket, Milojevic ventured into the NBA, assisting Steve Kerr and contributing to the Warriors' NBA title win in 2022.
