Included in the visit was attendance at the Tel Aviv derby on Sunday between Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv and Hapoel Shlomo Tel Aviv, which Maccabi won 95-78.
According to Tomer Givati from Israel Hayom, the visit lasted around two days. Guillen was invited by Maccabi, the journalist notes, to show how the country has progressed since the early days of the war, which started on October 7th after Hamas launched an unprecedented series of missiles toward Israel.
Maccabi hope that the EuroLeague can return to Israel and that both the infrastructure and the security situation are suitable for the occasion, Moses Barda from ONE writes. However, Guillen, although a major administrative figure in the organization, holds only an influential position, as the decision on whether the EuroLeague can be played in Israel will be determined by a shareholders meeting later this season.
It is noted that such a move can still remain a hurdle, as teams might not be willing to play games in a country that's still currently in a war situation, although a reduced one.
