Namely, Golden State's owner Joe Lacob reached out to the Los Angeles Lakers owner Jeanie Buss to ask whether the public frustration expressed by James before the deadline was a sign that the franchise could be ready to trade the superstar forward.
Buss declined such an opportunity, Wojnarowski and Shelburne report, but directed the Warriors to contact James' agent, Rich Paul, regarding the 39-year-old's status and state of mind.
Golden State's forward Draymond Green was a facilitator of the trade, encouraging Lacob to contact the Lakers and later messaging Paul, who represents him as well, to try and convince James to join the Warriors.
Paul communicated to Lacob and Warriors general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. that James was not tradeable and wanted to remain a Laker. As such, the trade talks ended.
The Warriors weren't the only team inquiring about LeBron, the report states. Additionally, the Philadelphia 76ers and their general manager, Daryl Morey, made a series of calls regarding the possibility of trading for the future Hall of Famer.
