A bombshell was dropped after the trade deadline that the Golden State Warriors made a real attempt to obtain LeBron James from the Los Angeles Lakers.

James addressed the rumors in TNT's "Inside the NBA" before the 2024 NBA All-Star game.

"I actually heard about it when everybody else heard about it. Sometimes there's conversations that happen behind closed doors that you don't even know about it," James stated. "And I guess until it's real or not, then they'll bring it to you. But it never even got to me."

ESPN sources indicate that it was Draymond Green, the GSW power forward, who convinced club owner Joe Lacob to pursue the deal with Lakers owner Jeanie Buss, owing to a perception that James was unhappy in the Lakers.

Although Lacob was asked to direct the proposal to Rich Paul, James's manager, the talks did not yield fruit since Paul rejected it outright, noting that the forward was happy with the Lakers. It is also important to note that Buss enabled the talks, prioritizing her players' happiness within the team.

Ultimately, the trade did not take place and LeBron James remained in the Lakers, where he is planning to stay until his retirement.
