On the account of the comments, Brown had some remarks to make via Shane Young of Forbes Sports.
"I think, ultimately, in this media era, some players are just afraid to get turned into a meme or whatever," Brown said, reflecting what he perceived to be a concern among his fellow players. "I wanted to come out and have fun within it and that's what I did," he ultimately stated.
Although it was the first time that Jaylen Brown joined the Slam Dunk Contest, he made it to the final round, where he lost to the incumbent champion, Mac McClung. Brown passed the first round with 96.4 points after Jaime Jaquez Jr. and Jacob Toppin were eliminated.
In the final stage of the contest, Brown scored 97.8 points from the jury, which was not enough to overtake McClung's 98.8 points.
