According to ESPN which cites court documents, the two parties will meet on December 10, 2024, after Nelson filed a lawsuit against the team almost two years ago in March 2022.

The situation developed after Nelson was dismissed from the position of the GM of the Mavericks. The lawsuit alleges that Nelson was fired because he called out Mark Cuban's "right-hand man," Jason Lutin, for harassing his, Nelson's, nephew.

Nelson was fired in June 2021, a little while after he went to team owner Cuban with the allegation concerning his nephew. The former GM also states that the assault took place in February 2020, and he only learned about it that summer.

He also purports that the team "quickly and quietly settled" his nephew's claims and "swep[t] [the allegations] under the rug."

The Mavericks are in denial of Nelson's narrative, stating that Nelson was fired primarily for his underwhelming performance. The team also states that they not only reported the harassment to the NBA but also hired a firm to conduct an investigation.

Eventually, in March 2023, the Mavericks management stated that the issue was resolved to "Nelson's nephew's satisfaction."

The two sides will meet in court on the 10th of December, 2024.
