Phoenix Suns superstar Kevin Durant has expressed his willingness to be a part of the Seattle SuperSonics if the franchise, where Durant started his professional journey in 2007 as the 2nd pick, were to make a return through NBA expansion.

"Without a doubt [I'd want to be a part of the SuperSonics]," Durant told Rich Kleiman in the exclusive Boardroom Cover Story. "I feel like that franchise is an iconic brand within the NBA. That market is a basketball market that needs the influence of the NBA team in that city.

"I believe it will be back," KD went on to say. "It will be part of the expansion of the league. To help run the team, help guide the team, as they come back into the league, I would absolutely love that. When I retire, that's a dream come true. That's probably one of the only things that I would really lock in like I was playing again.

"I feel I can add value to any franchise just based on my learning over time and my experience as an individual player in this league and just having the will to do something."

April 18, 2008, marked the day when the NBA, under the leadership of David Stern, approved the relocation of the Seattle SuperSonics to Oklahoma City.

Despite being an inexperienced prospect in a Sonics team that struggled after the departures of Gary Payton and Shawn Kemp, Durant averaged 20.3 points per game in his rookie season. He continued his dominant play with the Thunder, becoming league MVP in 2014.
