Additionally, he announced a transfer move the organization is working toward.
"We need to be strengthened. We should be ready for the Olympics (i.e., the roster should be complete), but I will say about one Nikola Kalinic, in whom we are interested. We are working on it," Covic revealed.
Nikola Kalinic played for Crvena Zvezda during the 2021-22 season and is currently representing FC Barcelona. The departure wasn't on the greatest terms, the club's representative said.
"We didn't sell him, he left for nothing. He had 1+1 [contract] and we delayed his four or five salaries. The man was waiting, there was a promise, we didn't fulfil it, [and] he went to Barcelona. We are working on it, as much as we can of course, respecting that he is a Barcelona player, we won't kidnap him," Covic said.
Kalinic's contract with Barcelona expires after the 2023-24 season, opening up the doors for his former team to snag him in free agency.
"There are still players of ours that we would like to see. [Everything] that we are doing, we are doing in agreement with [head coach Ioannis] Sfairopoulos. Stefan Jovic['s name fits] the same way of thinking, but [only] if he can ensure continuity," Covic shared.
In addition to Kalinic, the Serbian organization would also like to bring back a player who's currently in the NBA.
"We are also interested in Nikola Jovic. I wish him every success in the NBA, but if he doesn't play there, I would like to see him here. [Filip] Petrusev going to Olympiacos [Piraeus] is not our fault. It wasn't about the money. They would have given us the same amount, but due to circumstances, it was done the way it was done," Covic concluded.
