According to St. Cloud LIVE, the veteran guard has officially retired from the game of basketball.
"It happened gradually for me," Wolters said about the decision to retire. "Just being back home with my family means everything. I hadn't been home for a decade. The overseas seasons were long," he explained about his career in Europe.
Wolters's European career started in 2015 when he signed with Besiktas Emlakjet Istanbul and continued until 2023, with only a one-year interruption in the 2017-18 season when he played with the Utah Jazz.
"Now, I'm married with kids. At some point, it just became too much to be gone so long," he further explained about his decision.
In the last stretch of his career, the guard had sadly suffered many injuries and was occasionally not on the court, particularly during his one-season stint with Panathinaikos AKTOR Athens in the 2022-23 season.
"I've been busy with family stuff, and that's been great. Eventually, I'll get a job, I'm just not exactly sure what that will be. I think I earned some time off, but I don't want to rush into anything," the EuroLeague veteran said.
Having played college basketball for St. Cloud, Wolters showed remarkable adaptation to Europe, playing for high-tier teams such as Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv, Zalgiris Kaunas, Crvena Zvezda Meridianbet Belgrade, and Panathinaikos.
He has also had a notable NBA career, being drafted in the2nd round as the 38th overall pick by the Washington Wizards in 2013. Wolters played for teams like the Utah Jazz, Milwaukee Bucks, and New Orleans Pelicans.
In the EuroLeague, the guard has all-time averages of 9.2 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 3.1 assists for 9 PIR per game. As for the NBA regular season, he averaged 5.5 points, 2.2 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game.
