"Maccabi Tel Aviv respectfully accepted the invitation of Olympiacos to take part in the honorary celebration for Giorgos Printezis, who retired from action," said the Israeli club's president, Shimon Mizrahi.
"Printezis became one of the symbols of the team over the years and won back to back EuroLeague titles, combining wisdom and skills. He has also been one of the pillars of the Greek national team in recent years. See you soon!" the legendary executive stressed.
Wearing number 15, Printezis served Olympiacos for almost the entirety of his career. Excluding a one-year break in 2006-2007 and a two-year stint with Unicaja Malaga in 2009-2011, Printezis has been part of Olympiacos since 2002.
With Olympiacos, Printezis won the EuroLeague twice in back-to-back championships in the 2011-12 and 2012-13 seasons. The Greek player famously delivered the game-winning shot in the 2011-12 final to shock CSKA Moscow in Istanbul. He was also named to the All-EuroLeague First Team in 2017 and the EuroLeague 2010-20 All-Decade Team.
In all of his years competing professionally, the Olympiacos legend averaged 9.6 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 10.2 PIR in the EuroLeague.
The coach of the Israeli team, Oded Kattash, called the invitation "a great honour for Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv" and Printezis "a player who has left his mark on European basketball in general and Olympiacos in particular."
"All basketball fans remember his game-winner in the 2012 Euroleague final game and many other great clutch shots. He was a smart player with great contact with the ball, who always saw a step forward. Congratulations, Giorgos," he concluded.
