Greece will travel to the Netherlands without four, and possibly five, key players. Kostas Papanikolaou, Dinos Mitoglou, Thomas Walkup, Giannoulis Larentzakis have been left out of the squad, while Giorgos Papagiannis remains questionable.
Credit: FIBA Credit FIBAGreece started off their 2025 EuroBasket Qualifiers campaign with a victory over the Czech Republic in the packed Peace and Friendship Stadium.
On Saturday, the players returned to practice mode ahead of the trip to The Hague for Monday's match against the Netherlands.
11 players participated in the training session. Kostas Papanikolaou, Dinos Mitoglou and Thomas Walkup will not travel to the Netherlands and will join their respective teams (Olympiacos Piraeus and Panathinaikos AKTOR Athens) ahead of EuroLeague Round 27. Walkup will be replaced by Naz Mitrou-Long, who's expected to make his Greek NT debut.
Giannoulis Larentzakis, who did not participate in the first training sessions due to a meniscus problem, played in Friday's game despite not feeling well. However, since the problem intensified, he was left out of the squad.
The problems for coach Vassilis Spanoulis continue, as Giorgos Papagiannis underwent an MRI, due to a muscle spasm in his left adductor. Fenerbahce's big man will expect the results within the next few hours in order to be decided whether he'll make the cut.
