According to ESPN, the NBA's competition committee will perform research on the matter and try to see if a solution can be implemented to better balance offense and defense.
"It is a topic that we're monitoring. We're diving in right now to make sure that we're on the right side of this," said Joe Dumars, the NBA's executive vice president.
At the moment, no clear outcome of the monitoring or an approach to solving the issue at hand has been announced by the league.
"It's not to that point yet. We're diving [into the data] right now and just a ton of film and putting together a ton of reels to be able to look at this and go, 'OK, yeah, we do have a problem,'" explained Dumars, stating that they do not see the issue as a major one, currently. "But you don't make changes like that just on an anecdotal call."
The fading defense of the NBA has been a point of discussion for years now, but this year's offensive explosion with Joel Embiid scoring 70 points and Luka Doncic scoring 73 points, as well as the record-breaking All-Star Game has brought the issue to a head.
