Barnes had been having an outstanding season, averaging career highs of 20.0 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 6.1 assists per game.
Barnes' injury occurred late in the first half when he collided with the rim while attempting a block. Subsequently, he was subbed out with just under two minutes remaining in the second quarter and headed to the locker room for treatment.
"Obviously, when you lose an All-Star player in the game, that definitely changes a lot of things," Toronto coach Darko Rajakovic said. "We tried with different lineups, different players tonight, gave multiple players opportunities there."
Despite the loss, Barnes managed to contribute 10 points and six rebounds in just 16 minutes of play, ending a streak of five consecutive double-doubles.
The Raptors, with a record of 22-38 and now on a two-game losing streak, are set to continue their four-game homestand, facing the Charlotte Hornets on Sunday night.
Barnes is the second player on Friday to suffer a fractured left hand, with the Los Angeles Clippers guard Russell Westbrook also sustaining a left-hand injury during their game against the Washington Wizards. Westbrook has also been ruled out indefinitely.
