"Tari's gonna have surgery on Monday. He's obviously been going through some things throughout the year and had a benign growth on the shin bone inside, tibia, I think. He took that blow early in the season, and it flared up. He played through it with some pain. It never had a chance of fracturing it, but it was a pain tolerance thing," the coach explained.
"Once the pain got too high, we shot it down and thought rest and rehab could get over it that way. Every time we ramped up the workouts, the pain came right back," Udoka said. "After seeing all the specialists and decision-makers, we came to a decision it's best to have surgery Monday, to have a four-month period and be ready for the start of the season."
Eason had been dealing with the bone issue before, but the inadvertent contact during the games this season caused the problem to surface in a more serious way.
"It's pre-existing. It's something he's had for a while, but he got hit a few times early in the season - that's what made it flare up," Udoka said.
After playing in all 82 games during his rookie season last year, Eason competed in only 22 contests this season, averaging 9.8 points, 7 rebounds, and 1.4 steals per game.
