EA7 Emporio Armani Milan's forward Alex Poythress played just six minutes in the EuroLeague matchup against LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne on Friday and did not compete in the Italian league (LBA) on Sunday. Apparently, the player is dealing with a serious issue.

Poythress is dealing with hemiparesis, an inability to move one side of one's body. The effect is in the player's face, head coach Ettore Messina revealed.

"He's sick too. He returned from the games in Africa, and he has a sort of hemiparesis on his face. It's not known whether it's of a nervous origin or a virus. He made the effort the other night, but it bothers him," Messina said.

Poythress played for the Cote d'Ivoire national team during the FIBA international break in February. In three games with the squad, he averaged 21 points and 7.3 rebounds for 21.3 PIR en route to three victories in the AfroBasket 2025 Qualifiers.

Nikola Mirotic, Shabazz Napier, Stefano Tonut, and Diego Flaccadori did not play against Openjobmetis Varese in the LBA on Sunday as well. Two of them are expected to return to practice on Tuesday.

"Mirotic is not well, he had to take fluids. For Napier, his foot deflated yesterday, and he wasn't ready to play today. Tonut is stopped by the wrist [injury]. Flaccadori was in the 12[-man roster] for the Italians. I hope to recover Nikola, Shabazz, and Diego for the resumption of practices on Tuesday. I don't know about the other two," Messina said.
