The March Madness 2024 will involve 68 teams playing in a single-elimination tournament to determine the NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament champion for the 2023-24 season.

The 85th annual edition of the tournament begins on March 17 and concludes with the championship game on April 6 at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.

March Madness2024 Format

68 teams will take part in March Madness. 32 automatic bids were filled by each program that won its conference tournament.

The remaining 36 bids will issued "at-large," with selections extended by the NCAA Selection Committee. The Selection Committee will also seed the entire field from 1 to 68.

Eight teams (the four-lowest seeded automatic qualifiers and the four lowest-seeded at-large teams) will play in the First Four. The winners of these games will advance to the main bracket of the NCAA tournament.

After the First Four, 64 programs will compete in four conferences of 16 teams each. The top team from each conference will advance to the Final Four, where the semifinals and finals will be played.
