BasketNews has already reported about a possible merger between the EuroCup and the Basketball Champions League (BCL), where a 36-team format is imagined as a primary scenario.
With the merger of the two leagues, a promotion-relegation system would be set up in place to allow teams from European leagues to qualify for the second-tier joint tournament, AS reports.
According to Encestandoandlater reported by AS, the EuroLeague has received a proposal to host three Final Fours in a row in Abu Dhabi, UAE, starting in 2025. In return, the EuroLeague would receive €75,000,000 for a three-year deal, €25,000,000 for each season.
Additionally, the deal of the current CEO of the EuroLeague, Paulius Motiejunas, who currently works on a one-year contract with the organization, might be extended in the next shareholders meeting, AS writes.
Talks about a team from Dubai joining the EuroLeague have been going on for more than a year. It now seems the most likely way of them competing in the tournament would be through the EuroCup first, as BasketNews have reported.
