James needed just 12 points to surpass Vassilis Spanoulis in the all-time leaderboard. The 33-year-old AS Monaco star did it in under two quarters against Crvena Zvezda Meridianbet Belgrade.
Seen as one of the primary candidates for EuroLeague MVP this season, James started his quest early, scoring five points in the first quarter, and continued on it in the second quarter.
Ultimately, James did with a step-back jumper in the middle of the quarter.
The EuroLeague had prepared a special protocol for this occasion. When James reached the coveted mark, the game was stopped to mark this monumental achievement.
"I'm not really worried about it right now, I'll celebrate it after the game," James said during halftime.
James has represented five different teams throughout his EuroLeague career, starting with Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz, then moving to Panathinaikos Piraeus, EA7 Emporio Armani Milan, and CSKA Moscow before landing in Monaco, where he plays now.
Interestingly, both James and Spanoulis have shot two-pointers at the same rate throughout their EuroLeague careers - 49.5%. James, meanwhile, reached the record in 271 games compared to Spanoulis' 358.
