The French big man picked up the heftiest player fine of the year for making a money gesture at Scott Foster after being called his sixth foul during the Minnesota Timberwolves' 113-104 loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers on March 8.
Following the controversial call, Gobert openly expressed his frustration, suggesting that repeated questionable calls throughout the game influenced the outcome. In his remarks, Gobert implied that external factors, such as sports betting, might be influencing NBA referees’ decisions during games.
In April 2022, while with the Utah Jazz, Gobert was fined $25,000 for using profane language during a live television interview at the conclusion of the Jazz' 100-99 victory over the Dallas Mavericks in Game 4 of their first-round playoff series.
