In a post-game interview, the Lithuanian insisted that neither he nor his team pays special attention to the Lakers and Davis, seeing them as just another team/player to get the win over.
"We didn't think about that," said Sabonis after being asked about Sacramento's regular season sweep against the Lakers. "It's just another team on our calendar, and we got to get the wins. Now, we just got to think about the [New York] Knicks [on March 17]."
Sabonis also expressed that he was not happy with the constant remarks about the match-up between him and Anthony Davis.
"I don't pay attention to that. The more you guys bring attention to that, it makes my life harder," he noted, underlining that Davis becomes increasingly more motivated against him. "If anything, it will light a fire under him, so stop mentioning anything, please," he said jokingly.
Sabonis notched a triple-double of 17 points, 19 rebounds, and 10 assists, while Davis finished the game with 22 points and 10 rebounds on just 7-for-18 shooting.
While Davis leads the direct head-to-head matchup against Sabonis in points (23.1 to 13.3) and rebounds (9.8 to 9.6), the Lithuanian big man has significant leads in field goal percentage (60.8% to 46.2%), three-point percentage (40% to 35.7%), and assists (4.5 to 2.3).
