According to an announcement by the NBA, the project will have completed its lifespan at the end of the 2023-24 season.
Since 2020, the team's main purpose has been to develop potential top draft picks for the NBA. However, recent rules in the NCAA, which are now allowing young talents to receive pay from their college teams, have rendered the G League Ignite redundant.
So far, the team has produced such draft picks as Scoot Henderson (3rd pick in 2023), Jalen Green (2nd pick in 2021), and Jonathan Kuminga (7th pick in 2021). Currently, the Ignite roster has several younger talents, such as Matas Buzelis, who is currently ranked 8th in the NBA's 2024 mock draft as of March 21.
This season, the Ignite stands at the very bottom of the G League's Western Conference.
