Talking with the German website Kicker, Schroder said the Raptors' plan for him changed during the season and was contrary to what the guard was initially promised.
"The team and the coaches have welcomed me very well, they give me a lot of responsibility and have set up multiple plays so that I can put my teammates and myself in the spotlight. The people here value me. In Toronto, I had a good feeling when I signed the contract, but their plan for how they wanted to use me as a player changed pretty quickly. I would have liked more communication, but that's the way business works," Schroder said.
Does he regret the decision to sign with the Raptors? No, not in the slightest, Schroder says.
"No, it was the best decision because the Raptors paid the most," the German guard answered honestly. "The City, the club, the situation, everything was great, we lived 30 minutes outside of Toronto. My wife, my children, and I met a lot of great people. I generally appreciate getting to know new clubs. I was a little boy from Braunschweig who dreamed of playing in the NBA. And now I'm playing in the best league in the world for the eleventh year, I try to remember that every day."
"There are players who have even played for 14 or 15 different teams. It's not like it used to be that you stay in one franchise for your entire career, like Kobe Bryant or Dirk Nowitzki. That's a rarity these days, but Franz Wagner could make it in Orlando because he's still very young and is one of the two best players there. His situation is ideal," Schroder said about his compatriot.

He has stated he would like to return to Germany and win the German League (BBL) with the Lowen Braunschweig, a club he's a shareholder of.
"Tricky. When I return to Germany, I want to do it at a very high level, win a championship, and put together a team that can do it - that's the goal. A championship with Braunschweig would be amazing, but that will have to wait a few years," he said. "I don't want to give a specific number, but I can easily play until I'm 40. In the NBA until I'm 35, 36, then I could return to Germany at a good level and shake up the league a bit."
Before he can return to Germany, Schroder will lead the German national team in the upcoming 2024 Paris Olympic Games. Germany got drawn into Group B with Serbia, Japan, and the winner of the Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Riga.
Having won the 2023 FIBA World Cup MVP trophy last year, Schroder is in his prime to lead Germany to another title run. He's confident the team can do it despite the ever-increasing competition.
"In Paris, they are coming with LeBron James, Stephen Curry, Jayson Tatum, Kevin Durant, Anthony Davis, Jimmy Butler, and other superstars. It will be difficult, but nothing is impossible, and we have a chance. If we perform to our potential, we can still beat anyone, that's how confident I am with our German national team," he concluded.
