In an Instagram post, the experienced forward wrote a letter expressing his gratitude to basketball and thanking certain people and teams that have contributed to his journey.

Since the end of the 2021-22 season, the Serbian forward has had a difficult time with injuries, which limited his playing time immensely. It was previously reported that he had decided on retirement, and this seems to have come to fruition.

He last had a contract with Crvena Zvezda Meridianbet Belgrade but parted ways with the club early on in the 2023-24 season and did not appear in a single game in the EuroLeague with the Serbian team.

Bjelica has built up an impressive resume, both in Europe and in the NBA. Since 2010, he has played for Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz, Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul, Minnesota Timberwolves, Sacramento Kings, Miami Heat, Golden State Warriors, and Crvena Zvezda.

He has also been a valuable part of the Serbian national team, serving his country's senior squad many times since 2009.

In such an illustrious career, he won the EuroLeague MVP accolade in 2015 with Fenerbahce, was named to the All-EuroLeague First Team that same year, and became NBA champion in 2022. In the latter case, his defensive presence in the finals series has been considered essential for the Golden State Warriors.

Bjelica was also an integral part of the Serbian rosters that won second place in the FIBA EuroBasket 2009 and the FIBA World Cup 2014.

He has career averages of 8.6 points, 5.3 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and 1 steal per game in the EuroLeague. As for the NBA, he has regular season career averages of 7.6 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 1.8 assists.
