Huertas made his mark by becoming the all-time assist leader in the history of the Spanish league. During the game, he delivered his fourth assist with an alley-oop pass to his long-time pick-and-roll partner, Giorgi Shermadini, securing his 2,897th assist in the ACB.

At nearly 41 years old (he turns 41 on May 25), Huertas surpassed Pablo Laso, the former coach of Real Madrid, who held the record with 2,896 assists over his 21-season career.

Laso had maintained his position at the top of the statistic for 21 years, retiring as a player in 2003.

Huertas has been an active presence in the highest Spanish basketball league for 17 years, representing teams like Joventut, Bilbao, Baskonia, Barcelona, and currently Tenerife.

His reign as the record holder seems likely to endure for a considerable time.

Currently, only two other active players appear in the Top 10, both nearing the end of their careers and trailing far behind. These players are Real Madrid's Sergio Llull, ranking seventh with 1,831 assists, and Sergio Rodríguez, holding the fifteenth spot with 1,613 assists.
