The new complex was planned outside of Washington, D.C., and it would have provided a much worse connection to the people living in the area.
As local outlets note, only two train lines extend to the region where the new venue would've been built, offering limited parking. Meanwhile, the current Capital One Arena is based in the city center, close to the central hub that provides numerous options for local residents to get to the venue and offers ample parking space.
The City of Alexandria notes that it was adamant that the proposal included improvements to the transportation system as well as other affordable housing, additional services, and quality jobs for the local community. The proposal did not meet the demands.
