Germany national team head coach Henrik Rodl was frank after his team was defeated by Australia. But he remained positive, as his team still has a chance to advance to the medal rounds of the Olympic Games.
Player of the Game EFF 20 Nick Kay Points 16 Accuracy 7-10 Rebounds 4 Assists 4
"We would have to be almost perfect to beat a very, very good team like Australia. We were hoping their older players would get a little tired, I thought Ingles did look a bit tired, but everyone else was really playing on a very high level. I thought we beat them on the glass, which is reflected in the rebounds, but turnovers that we commit against the aggressive defensive certainly didn't help," explained Rodl after the game. "Australia are really a team that punishes all the mistakes that you make. It is very hard to recover, so congrats to them. We should have a good chance to advance, we hope things work out for us and we look forward to playing in the Quarter-Finals."
Andreas Obst, who led Germany with 17 points, was happy with his team's effort and ability to stay in the game.
"We gave up shots and some offensive rebounds and they used them. But I liked our reaction and trust, we came back from like 10 down, we fought again like we were doing the whole summer. Still, I think we need to be better all the time and more solid at the end of the game."
