Player of the Game EFF 46 Nigel Hayes-Davis Points 50 Accuracy 18-27 Rebounds 2 Assists 0
Hayes-Davis scored 50 points on 18-for-27 shooting, surpassing Shane Larkin (49 points) as the new EuroLeague's all-time single-game scoring record holder. The forward was praised by his teammates and his fellow EuroLeague players alike.
However, the player's achievement didn't get much attention from the Turkish media in the arena.
When head coach Sarunas Jasikevicius finished his comments about the game, praising his player, he did not receive a single question from the media members gathered in the press conference.
"After a 50-point game in the EuroLeague, I have no questions. This is sad, ok? Very sad for the Turkish basketball journalism. I'm pissed off, really, to be honest with you," Saras said.
"Last week, we beat Barcelona. It was one of the most incredible games as far as how the game is as a story. Fenerbahce playing incredible basketball, Barcelona coming back, making a great comeback, positioning themselves, and Fenerbahce again winning. There were three questions in the last press conference. Two were the gossip questions, asking me to comment [about] the tweet," Jasikevicius continued, visingly being frustrated. "The social media in this situation is the most ridiculous thing, the saddest thing."
Hayes-Davis registered 46 PIR in the game, while the entire ALBA Berlin team had a combined PIR of 47. Jasikevicius bashed the Turkish media for their seemingly lackluster approach to journalism.
"Now, Nigel Hayes-Davis breaks the record, and I have no questions in the press conference? I'm very sorry, I know some of you will not like it as far as Turkish basketball journalism goes, but I'm very sorry, I believe this is a very sad evening for Turkish basketball journalism.
