After turning 38 on February 22, the 21st pick in the 2006 Draft officially announced his retirement on the 'All The Smoke podcast' with Matt Barnes and Stephen Jackson.
"I now prefer to spend time with my children. I earned enough, now I take care of them," he said, explaining his decision, which however did not come as a surprise. In fact, Rondo played his last game in the NBA in April 2022 with the Cleveland Cavaliers and last year he stayed still without finding a team or trying an adventure overseas.
His career ends with him having played for nine different teams, among which stand out the nine years spent with the Boston Celtics. Rondo then won the 2020 title in the Orlando bubble with the Los Angeles Lakers, playing a key role coming off the bench and also scoring 19 points in the decisive game-6 of the Finals against the Miami Heat.
In addition to team achievements, Rondo was also an All-Star four times between 2010 and 2013, and a three-times assist leader in the league. He recorded 32 triple-doubles in the regular season and 10 in the playoffs.
In the first episode of his podcast LeBron James predicted for him a future as a coach. "Indeed, I am surprised that he is not already, but maybe it is not the life he wants," the NBA legend said.
