Since then, at least one of the three teams played in the postseason each year.
Starting with the 1980-81 season, the Spurs have made the playoffs 35 times and 22 straight since 1998. When they didn't make the playoffs four times during that span, the other two teams filled in.
In 1984, the Mavs were the lone team out of the three in the postseason. In 1989 and 1997, the Rockets represented Texas in the playoffs. In 1987, both Dallas and Houston played past the regular season.
This year, all three teams will miss the postseason. Additionally, the NBA has launched an investigation into Mavericks for possible tanking in Friday night's game against the Chicago Bulls.
The Rockets and the Spurs are both tied for second place for the worst record in the league.
