A new era will begin for the Charlotte Hornets and head coach Steve Clifford as the specialist will step down from his role and have a different one within the franchise.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, the tactician told his staff today that he would be stepping down at the end of the season. Instead, he will move to the team's front office.

The club also released a statement that confirmed Clifford's disengagement from the Hornets.

Wojnarowski further states that while the club's management was ready to offer Clifford the chance to coach next season, the experienced coach decided that he was not ready to undertake such a commitment.

Since Clifford definitively ruled coaching for next year, the franchise started looking for alternatives. Currently, the following assistant coaches are on the Hornets' list, though they are not the only names: Jordi Fernandez (Sacramento Kings), Charles Lee (Boston Celtics), Chris Quinn (Miami Heat), and Kevin Young (Phoenix Suns).

Irrespective of what may happen in the future, Clifford will see the team through this regular season's last 7 games.

The American specialist has a special place in the franchise's history. He became the Hornets' winningest coach in early 2023, serving the team in the years between 2013 and 2018 and then again in 2022-2024.
