Two different specialists warned Randle of the injury getting worse and having permanent negative effects on his shoulder if he didn't choose surgery. After exploring all other treatment options, the player ultimately decided to take the surgery path, Wojnarowski adds.
The player will be re-evaluated in five months, the Knicks announced.
Randle played in 46 games this season before injuring his shoulder. He averaged 24 points, 9.2 rebounds, and 5 assists per game for the Knicks.
The 29-year-old injured his shoulder during the game against the Miami Heat in January. It happened in the fourth quarter when Heat forward Jaime Jaquez Jr. attempted to draw a charge. As Randle rose for a layup, the collision caused him to fall directly on his right shoulder.
