The Croatian star expressed his disappointment, labeling their performance as "a shame" and highlighting the importance of maintaining momentum.
"We understand that Baskonia needed the win, but so do we. We need to step up our game to be competitive. We have to win games because if we go down now, all the hard work we have put in during the season will count for nothing. It's a shame what we have done," Hezonja, who had a team-high 18 points, stressed post-game, via EFE.
"What do I have to do? Be happy?" he continued. "It's very bad because we all want to win. We are all winners here. It doesn't matter if we are first or if we have already qualified for the playoffs. We have to play better, play as a team like last year because if we don't, we can go home today."
Despite securing the top spot in the regular season a couple of rounds ago thanks to a strong start, Real Madrid's recent form has been a bit concerning, with a 4-4 record in their last eight EuroLeague games.
Their final EuroLeague regular-season game will be on the road against Zalgiris Kaunas next Thursday.
