Fontecchio has not played since March 18 due to a left toe contusion. However, as the Detroit Pistons forward revealed himself, things might be more serious.

"Initially we thought it was only a bruise, but the foot injury has been more complex than originally anticipated," Fontecchio told Il Corriere dello Sport. "I'm still dealing with it. Now I'm trying to solve the problem as soon as possible."

"I'll go back to Italy to continue my treatment, and when the situation is under control, I'll think about the national team," Fontecchio added.

The 28-year-old finished the season with the Pistons, averaging 15.4 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game in 16 appearances.

Overall, Fontecchio averaged 10.5 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game in 66 appearances for the Pistons and Utah Jazz.

FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournaments will take place from July 2 to July 7. Italy will compete in the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Puerto Rico, and only the winner will receive a spot in the 2024 Paris Olympics.
