St. John's fires head coach Mike Anderson
St. John's has fired head coach Mike Anderson, the schoolannounced on Friday.
Anderson led St. John's for four seasons, and the team was 68-56with him at the helm.
"After fully evaluating the men's basketball program, ouruniversity has decided a change is needed in both the leadershipand direction of St. John's Basketball," St. John's Director ofAthletics Mike Cragg said.
"We wish Coach Mike Anderson and his family the best in theirfuture."
Anderson was the 21st head coach in the history of St. John'smen's basketball program, and Cragg "has begun a national search"for their next head coach.
Associate head coach Van Macon will lead the program in theinterim until a new head coach is hired.
St. John's boasts the ninth-most victories all-time in NCAADivision I history. The program has recorded 90 winning seasons inits storied 116-year history.
With 29 NCAA Tournament appearances in program history, the RedStorm has made nine runs to the Sweet 16, six trips to the EliteEight, and a pair of Final Four appearances in 1952 and 1985.
