It goes without saying that Victor Wembanyama is one of the most unique and impressive rookies to have come to the NBA in recent years, being drafted by the San Antonio Spurs in 2023.

His height and spider-like legs and arms make him a dangerous player when coupled with agility, a high basketball IQ, and good shooting technique, skills which are all under construction for the 20-year-old big man.

In an interview with The Ringer, Wembanyama talked about his potential and what future he sees in his collaboration with the San Antonio Spurs.

"It's hard to say," Wembanyama said in response to whether he will be the player to revolutionize defenses as Steph Curry has revolutionized offense. "Defense has always been an aspect of the game where I felt comfortable. I'm curious to see it."

"And I'm waiting to be challenged as well by my coaches, by my teammates, to get new, bigger roles," he revealed. "Maybe being able to guard every position. But also, maybe for the last possession of the game because as of today, when the opponent point guard has the ball, I'm not going to guard him," he also stopped short of being too confident."

"But, yeah, there's plenty of possibilities and some unconventional ones, just like offensively," he said about his defensive and offensive potential.

The other agenda on the topic was the performance of the Spurs this year and the future of Wembanyama in the San Antonio organization

"I'm pretty satisfied with the growth we had together this year," Wemnbayama began on a positive note. "It's definitely a good improvement, and this is one more reason, and I'm satisfied with it this year."

"There's even more stuff to experiment and to develop defensively, but at least we have some info now on what we can do and what we do well."

The rookie also revealed that some players reached out to him to discuss possible collaborations in the San Antonio Spurs, though he resigned from making any remark that a GM usually makes.

"Yeah, I've received some messages, even from prospects. But I try to sustain my role," Wembanyama said. "It's a whole new world that I'm eager to discover. For sure, one day or the other, I'll have to be involved in this, I guess, even though I'm staying in my role as a player. ... I trust the front office and coaches," he refused to comment after being asked about possible roster moves.

In his first year in the NBA, Wembanyama averaged a strong double-double of 21.4 points, 10.6 rebounds, and 3.9 assists per game.
